He is survived by: his close friend Joan; his grandchildren, Mary (Jimmy), Martha (Jared), Maggie (Tyler), Jack, Jessie, Corbin, Spencer, Jacob and Luke; and his great grandchildren, Rhya, Jay and Alma.

In lieu of flowers memorials in honor of John V. Dwyer can be made to Lurie's Children's Hospital of Chicago.
