She was predeceased by: her husband John; and her son Andrew. She is survived by: her children, Christine Novotny (Brian), John Jr., William (Nancy), Cynthia Houghton (David) and Jeffrey (Karen); and her grandchildren, Tiffany, Matthew, Shannon, Jonathan, Holly and Emily.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to All Saints Episcopal Church in Western Springs or the American Heart Association.

“Barbara was a treasure. I loved her stories she would regale me with about the building of her A-frame, bringing a horse home, unforgettable cruise - ah so many. I am self employed and typically have a professional relationship with my clients. Barbara was different - she felt like extended family. She was loved and will be missed. I know she is with her handsome husband and her son. I take comfort in that. I wish her family my heartfelt condolences. Pam Beatty”
