With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Carl Dwight Smothers of West Frankfort, Illinois, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 23, 2024 at the age of 83. He was predeceased by: his parents, Noble Smothers and Pauline Smothers; and his sister Bernice Mitchell. He is survived by: his wife Sharon Kay Smothers (Parton); his children, Paula Whobrey (Allen) of West Frankfort, Angela Ren (Mike) of Cambria and Brent Smothers of Dallas; his grandchildren, Jerid Thompson (Jamie), Delta Hood (Preston), Shaydie Russell (Kaleb), Georgie Ren (Austin) and Elijah Mohring (Amiah Grider); his great grandchildren, Lauren Kent, Kade Hood, Ashlyn, Alex Thompson, Paisley Russell, Gracie Hood and Clay Russell; and his close friend John Blades.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to contribute to Antioch United Methodist Church Hospice of Southern Illinois.
