He was predeceased by: his parents, James Alexander and Agnes Marie Alexander Sr. (Bessie Alexander); and his children, James Floyd III, Reneau Jones, Maywillie Jones and Pecoila Jones.
He is survived by: his aunt Francis; his wife Dr. Bessie Alexander; his children, Rosilyn, Armando T. L. Alexander (Manu) and David C. Wade (Cynthia); his grandchild Rosilyn Jones; and his siblings, Francis (Tilly), Samuel (Shirley) and Sadie Catherine.
