He was predeceased by: his parents, Houston Hilt and Gertie Hilt (German); and his siblings, Charles Hilt, Alberta Apke and Bernice McClure.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Hilt of Watson; his children, Vickie Schoenhoff (Gary) of Effingham, Debbie Miller (Ron) of Shelbyville, Paula Antrim of Effingham, Nancy Larimore of Effingham, Carol Hanna (John) of Mason and David Hilt (Denise) of Effingham; and his grandchildren, Jaymie McCammon (Jared), Stephanie Saabredra (Moises), Andy Miller, Brian Miller (Miranda), Aaron Antrim, Levi Antrim (Jeanna), Ashley Reiss (Bryce), Chloe Larimore, Kyle Larimore, Carter Larimore, Cortney Hanna, Easton Hanna, Rachel Hanna, Maci Hanna, Taylor Hilt (Jonathan Perkins) and Kacie Tull (Deano). He is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
