He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert J. Van and Leona C. Van of Riet; his former wife Mary Elizabeth Van of Riet; and his wife Kelia A. Van of Riet. He is survived by: his daughters, Zoe Weakly (Ray), Angie Gregson (Will), Susan Novack (John) and Jill Wehrheim (Glenn); his stepchildren, Jeff Dougherty (Tracy), Kim Gool (Mike), Pam Messmer (Joe) and Tricia Durbin; his grandchildren, Kelly Wehrheim, Phillip Wehrheim (Nikki), Nick Hernandez (Grace), Shane Gregson (Rachel), Audrey Schoenbeck (Josh), Rachel McIver (Tyler) and Emma Novack; his great grandchildren, Mayda, Makayla Wehrheim, Aidan, Landon, Trentin, Theo Hernandez, Blake, Ethan Schoenbeck, Oakley and Sophie McIver; and his brother James Van (Charlene) of Riet. He is also survived by 11 step grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren, brother-in-laws; sister-in-laws; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
As an expression of sympathy, the family prefers memorial contributions to: Hospice of Southern Illinois or Donor's Choice.
