He was predeceased by: his wife Serrelda Kaye Smothers; his daughter Sandra Vander Heyden (Jeffrey); his parents, Claude Amos and Hazel Gertrude Smothers; and his brother Don Smothers.
He is survived by: his son James C. Smothers (Lori); and his grandchildren, Lucas, Derek Smothers and Meranda Vander Heyden. He is also survived by nieces nephews, and cousins.
He was a member of First Baptist Church - Waterloo, Waterloo Masonic Lodge AF & AM 787, American Legion, ROMEO (First Baptist Church) As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to: Donor's Choice.
