He was predeceased by: his wife Wanda Faye Bates (Anders); his son Houston F. Bates Jr.; and his siblings, Lois Jean Aderholt, Norma Inez Barr, Billie Jo Beard, Ginger Delores Willis and Jerry Rowe Bates.
He is survived by: his siblings, Jesse J "Pete" Bates (Joye) of Decatur, AL and Patricia Ann Byers (John) of Montgomery City, MO; his daughters, Vonda Meyer (Larry) of Wright City, MO, Becky Krueger (Brad) of Waterloo, IL and Missy Jeffries (Denis) of Moberly, MO; and his grandchildren, Tim Derr, Jennifer Derr, Kim Robison, Katie Jenkins, Keri Seidt, Nathan Vogt, Shelly Welker and Hannah Welker. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Helping Strays of Monroe County.
