He was predeceased by: his aunt Betty Runge; and his uncle Delbert Scheibe (Janet). He is survived by: his children, Ryan, Lauren and Sarah Schmieg; his parents, Lavern Schmieg and Charlotte Schmieg; his brothers, Brian Schmieg (Cathi) and Daniel Schmieg (Tracey); and his godmother Ruth White.
