It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gary Mehrtens of Waterloo, Illinois, born in Red Bud, Illinois, who passed away on May 3, 2021, at the age of 60, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Mehrtens and Shirley Coffman; and his sisters, Rebecca Morrison and Julie Vaughn. He is survived by: his wife Wanda Mehrtens; his children, Amanda Garavaglia (Michael) and Gabriele Sandknop (Nathaniel); his grandchildren, Sophia, Mia Garavaglia and Bode Sandknop; and his siblings, Lisa Tinsley (Kevin), Andrew and Sherman Alexander. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As an expression of sympathy the family prefers memorial contributions to: American Diabetes association or American Heart Association.
