He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerome Purfield and Dorothy Purfield (Menges); and his son Charles Edward Purfield. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Jean Purfield; his brother William "Bill"; his sister-in-law Debbie Kirby; his niece Jacquline "Jackie" Flora; and his grandchildren, Alexandrea Barbson and Trey Barbson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John Purfield Memorial Fund, in care of the American Legion Post 983 of East Peoria.
