With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Helen E. Wankel of Washington, Illinois, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. She was predeceased by: her parents, Lawrence Abbott and Nina Abbott (Fee); her former husband Jack W. Wankel; her son Gary D. Lahey; and her siblings, Paul Abbott, Ruth Miley, Kathryn Winchester, Olive Garmon and Doris Mae Abbott.
She is survived by: her children, Terrance Lahey (Eileen) of St. Charles, MO, Lawrence Lahey of Portland, OR, Carey Phillip Lahey (Nikki) of Springfield, Sheryl Lahey (Bob Elliott) of Portland, OR, Gerry Lahey of Springfield and Jackelyn Harper (Steven) of Roanoke, IL; and her stepchildren, Gerald Wankel (Denise) of Chandlerville, Virginia Kay DeGroot (late Dennis) of Ashland and Trish Hannel (Joe Lowder) of Springfield. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Yatesville Cemetery. A reception was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM at the The Transfer Company Event Space.
