He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Nancy Austin; his daughters, Elaine Kaufmann (Hank) of Washington, Diane Briggs (Brian) of Washington, Sharon Mayo (Mike) of Edwardsville and Karen Brubaker (Steve) of Rochester; his grandchildren, Lynn Kaufmann (Steve Taylor), Mark Kaufmann (Alison), Lauren Clayton (Cody), Justin Mayo, Meagan Mayo, Kaitlin Sitler (Matt), Tyler Briggs (Kelli), Ben Brubaker (Kahla) and Lucas Brubaker (Sarah Malik); and his siblings, Harold Kastl (Sandra) and Larry Kastl (Carol).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Transitions Hospice.
