He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Hawes and Mayme Hawes (Schliem); his in-laws, Arthur and Alverna Busch; his brother Ron Hawes; and his brother-in-law Karl Busch.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Busch; his daughters, Pam Davis (John Deyo) of Warren, Marcia Kaiser (Doug) of Monroe, WI and Lana Murphy (Steve) of Lake Mills, WI; his grandchildren, Garrett Davis (Amy), Kylie Davis (Matt), Haley Neuenschwander (Luke), Riley Murphy (Courtney Nevala), Bryce Murphy (Jasmine Jones) and Ian Murphy (Julia Carncross); his great grandchildren, Hudson, Adelyn, Ella Davis, Kameron, Kaden Davis and Wesley Murphy; his sister-in-law Mary Hawes; and his nieces, Melissa Daddio (Joe) and Mollie Hawes.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
