He was predeceased by: his mother Ruth Williams; his stepfather Sam Williams of White Hall, Ill.; his father Bob McCarthy; his stepmother Meta McCarthy of Carrollton, Ill.; and his sisters, Cheryl McCarthy of Roodhouse and Diana McCarthy of St. Louis.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda; his siblings, John McCarthy of Tacoma, Wash. and Teresa Wyatt of St. Louis; his daughter Alison Irlam; his stepdaughter Casey Ricketts; and his daughter Erin McCarthy (John Leiter) of Anchorage, Alaska..
