He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Stead and Gladys Minteer Stead; his wife Shirley A. Utz; his siblings, Jack Stead and Alice Seaton; and his brother-in-law Dick.
He is survived by: his former wife Phyllis L. Gardner; his son Joseph Dean Stead; his stepsons, Floyd Richard, Randall Wayne and Robert Kevin Utz (Emelyne) of Seattle, Washington; his children, Sharon Stead Tahere (John) of Walcott, Joe Stead (Tracy) of Viola, Floyd Utz (Joyce) of New Windsor and Randy Utz (Sharon) of Roseville; his daughter-in-law Kim Utz of Sequim, Washington.; his sisters-in-law, Bonnie Frieden of Aledo, Ethel Creek Conard (Owen) of Elephant Butte, Mary Creek Shaw (Rick) of Alexis, Gean Creek of Alexis and Shirley Creek of Galesburg; and his cousin Jerry.
During his last eleven or twelve years, he had successfully fought off both cancer and later, severe covid, but time seemed to just catch up with him.
