Shelley Turner Obituary
Shelley Sue (Davis) Turner, age 82 years, a resident of Vienna, Illinois, and a former resident of Paducah, Kentucky, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 18, 2024, at 2:05 P.M. at The Anchor of the Voyage Senior Living in Marion, Illinois. At her side were her two beloved daughters and her sister, whom she loved dearly.
Shelley’s love and faith in God were inspirational to many. She was known for her smile and she was a friend to all. The world has lost a beautiful, joyful soul, but the family rejoices knowing that she is with her husband and her Heavenly Father.
Shelley was born October 4, 1941, in Evansville, Indiana. She was the daughter of Lodella (nee Curry) and Walter Davis.
On March 23, 1961, Shelley was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Turner in Carmi, Illinois. They supported each other’s interests and she encouraged him to pursue his education in biblical theology. Their commitment and dedication to each other lasted their lifetimes. Shelley cared for her husband with love and devotion until his death on August 19, 2000.
Shelley is survived by: her daughters – Tracey (her husband, Bill) Johnson of Vienna, Illinois, and Shannon (her husband, Theofilos) Moyssiadis of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; grandchildren she loved and adored – Rebecca (nee Johnson, her husband, Chase) Gilbert, Brandon (his fiance’ Brittaney Montagud) Rose, Clayton (his wife, Camila) Rose; great-grandchildren she considered blessings – Felicity Gilbert, Ian Gilbert, and Esperanza Rose; a brother – James Davis of Carmi, Illinois, and a sister – Sethan Chastain of Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Shelley was preceded in death by her mother – Lodella Brown; her husband – Kenneth Turner; and a brother – Bob Davis.
Shelley was a 1959 graduate of Carmi High School. She attended Murray State University from 1960-1961. Shelley worked as a library clerk in several libraries, including Murray State University. She also worked as a receptionist in several health care facilities.
Shelley was a faithful and dedicated Christian. During the time of her residency in Paducah, she was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Following her move to Vienna, Shelley became an active member at Vienna First United Methodist Church, where she served as a volunteer librarian, participated in Bible studies, and assisted with the children’s summer lunch program and the church-sponsored Wednesday evening dinners. Shelley was also a volunteer at Faith Alive, the Vienna area Christian ministerial alliance thrift store.
Shelley enjoyed a variety of hobbies and pastimes, including flower gardening and reading. She loved going for walks and marveled at the beauty of God’s creation. She had an inquisitive mind and was always looking to expand her horizons by learning new information and often shared interesting quotes from various authors and poets. She also volunteered for a number of years as an organizer of her high school class reunions.
In her last years, Shelley resided at Autumn Ridge Supported Living in Vienna and then The Anchor at the Voyage Senior Living in Marion, Illinois. Shelley formed friendships there and the family is grateful for the many people who loved and cared for Shelley.
A memorial service honoring the life of Shelley Turner will be conducted Sunday afternoon, March 10, 2024, at 2 P.M. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
Private interment will be in the Johnson Cemetery, east of Vienna.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 P.M. – 2 P.M. Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the funeral home.
