Robert Kiel Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Robert Kiel of Vandalia, Illinois, who passed away on February 2, 2025 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Dutch" Kiel and Minnie Kiel (Baskin); his son Daniel Kiel; his siblings, William Kiel, Richard Kiel, Wanda Applegath, Jo Moniger and Lois Morgan; and his great grandchild Palmer Jo Janssen.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Kiel of Vandalia; his children, Robert S. Kiel (Elizabeth) of Murphysboro and Sallyann Shields (Joe) of Vandalia; his grandchildren, Josh Shields (Dani), Matthew Kiel (Nataly), Emily Janssen (Aaron), Kate Campbell (Thomas), Elijah Kiel and Johanna Shields; his stepgranddaughter Brittney Pearson (David); his great grandchildren, Elliot, Camryn and Kolt; and his stepgreat-granddaughter Ember Pearson.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Mother of Dolors Catholic Church (322 N 7th St, Vandalia, IL 62471). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 7th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Saturday, February 8th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Saint Andrew Catholic Cemetery (2500 Illinois Ave, Murphysboro, IL 62966).
Memorials may be made to St Andrew Catholic Church, Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, or to Fayette County Health Dept.
