Edward Conrad Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edward Conrad of Urbana, Illinois, born in Washington, District of Columbia, who passed away on May 20, 2023, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Conrad and Margaret Conrad (Shepherd); and his sister Lillian Shepard. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Cutshall; his children, Jean Conrad Land and John Conrad (Nichole Neugebauer); his granddaughters, Meghan Verkler and Kristin Kowalczuk (Nickolas) of Elmwood Park, IL; and his brother Carl W. Conrad (Velma) of Burnsville, NC. He is also survived by niece and several nephews.
He spent the next 3 years writing a book, "Heparin-Binding Proteins", which together with his many research publications, are still cited today, including during development of the vaccine for Covid-19.
In 1989, he was named one of the inaugural Jubilee Professors in the College of Liberal Art & Sciences for his contributions to teaching, research, and academic citizenship.
