He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Lee and Clade Ellen Spencer (Butler); his siblings, Harold Spencer, Dale Spencer, John Spencer, Hazel Spencer, Margaret Henke, Daisy Mudd and Eleanor Ward; and also Donald Spencer.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Spencer; and his children, Robert M. Spencer (Sheila R.), Janet M. Grabbe of Newport News, Virginia and Edward L. Spencer (Melanie L.) of Trilla, Illinois. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the Zion Hill Cemetery.
