She was predeceased by: her father Herbert Schappaugh; and her son Daniel Lynn Bortell. She is survived by: her husband Dennis Pannier; her children, Susan Bohm of Pekin, Doris Rubenstein (Mark) of Chatham, Vergil Bortell (Becky) of Virdon and Verden "Fred" Bortell (Su) of Irving, TX; and her brother Paul Schappaugh (Susie) of Havana. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Memorials in Verla's honor may be made to The Trinity Lutheran Church, in Manito or The American Cancer Society.
