He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor Smith and Marilyn Smith (Emerson); and his siblings, James V. Smith, Mary M. Mize and Gail Thome.
He is survived by: his wife Frances Schaefer; his sons, Christopher J. Smith (Pamela) of Coulterville, David L. Smith, Jr. (Hannah) of Coulterville and Joseph P. Smith of Red Bud; his grandchildren, Faith, Emma, Layla, Jake, Raiden, Harlow, Birdie, Scotlyn and Eleanor; and his sister Michelle Schmidt of Peoria. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
