He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis Thomas and Minerva Evelyn Blades (Lappin); his sons, Tony Ray and Dennis Gene Blades; his son-in-law Steve Johanson; his grandson John Patrick Cunningham; his stepfather Loren Sanders; and his siblings, Helen Summers, Betty King, Paul, Robert and Leroy Blades.

He is survived by: his wife Sue Blades of Thompsonville; his children, Susan Gundlach (Gerry) of Belleville, Kathy Marie Johanson of Seattle, WA. and Louis John Blades (Rhonda) of Conneaut, OH.; his grandchildren, Christy Cunningham Pelett (Dan) of Sherwood, OR., Holly Archer (Jared) of Seattle, WA., Justin Blades (Irina) of Kentucky, Randall Blades (Amanda) of Kentucky, Mick Gundlach (Casey) of St. Charles, MO., Tom Gundlach of Belleville, Tyler Gundlach of Belleville and Heather Gundlach of Belleville; and his brother Everett Blades (Betty) of Marion. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
