He was predeceased by: his son Herbert (Ollie Busby Prater); his wife Francis; his son Ricky Prater; and his siblings, Mildred Simmons, James Prater, Maxine Croy, Bill Prater and Jerry Prater.
He is survived by: his children, Doris Ann Houchens of Cape Girardeau, Judy M. Sutton (John) of Thebes, Steve Prater (Saundra) of Thebes and Charles Prater (Julie) of Cape Girardeau; and his sisters, Shirley Hale of Thebes and Kay Hale of McClure, Illinois.. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
