He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Esker and Henrietta Esker (Johans). He is survived by: his wife Stella C. Niemerg of Teutopolis; his children, Kathy Wall (David) of Effingham, Jane Zuber (Gordon) of Teutopolis, Jim Esker (Cindy) of Teutopolis, Jerry Esker (Lana) of Charleston and Jean Althoff (Eric) of Effingham; his brother Frank Esker (late Betty) of Effingham; his grandchildren, Holly Wall (Nick Burger), Alex Wall, Patrick Zuber (Julie), Ben Zuber (Erica), Brian Esker (Toni), Brent Esker (Kelly), Scott Esker (Emily), Julie Karstens (Adam), Michelle Gilland (Jordan), Emily Thompson (Matt), Blake Esker (Janelle Medernach), Abby Welsh (L. J.), Trent Esker, Courtney Esker, Nicole Field (Justin), Ryan Althoff (Kayla) and Mallory Doedtman (Luke); and his sisters-in-law, Rosie Schumacher (Tony) and LouAnn Niemerg. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be given to Effingham County Right to Life or to the Secular Franciscans.
