He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Smith and Ruth Smith. He is survived by: his wife Natalie Smith of Taylorville; his son Nick Smith of St. Louis; and his siblings-in-law, Donna Castelli of Taylorville and Nick Orlandini of New Mexico.

He served on the Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, Christian County Mental Health Association Board, Taylorville Country Club Board, and the Christian County Y.M.C.A Board.
