She was predeceased by: her father Versal Wharton; and her grandparents, Owen Harper, JoAnn Harper, Zell Wharton and Lila Wharton.

She is survived by: her mother Kathleen Harper-Wharton (Ray) of Taylorville; her children, Tyler Dorton and Mia Dorton of Taylorville; her aunt Marilyn Sturek (Christopher) of Bailey, Colorado; her cousins, Mirka Sturek and Braden Sturek; her former husband Timothy Daniel Dorton of Bono, Arkansas; and her close friends, Mary Tolle, Abigail Merker and Linda Deweese.

Memorials may be made to an education fund for Melony's children that has been established at the First National Bank in Taylorville.
