She was predeceased by: her parents, Rev. Dottie Alexander Purvis and Annie Bradley Purvis; her husband Harold E. Nelson; her daughters, Marvene Nelson (Karen Pugh) and Cindy Nelson; her son-in-law Leon H. Wilkins III; her siblings, Eugene Purvis, Ruth Henry, Peggy Cameron, Ethel Stokes, Thomas Alexander Purvis and John Daniel Purvis; and her siblings-in-law, Dr. Sylvia Purvis, Clyde Burgess and Jaswant Sihra.
She is survived by: her children, Harold II (Skip), Marva Nelson of Champaign, IL, Gloria Wilkins of Belleville, IL, Connie Houston (Lamar) of Tamms, IL, Glenda Nelson of Dallas, TX, Hazel Stanley (Joseph Bourg), Sandra Brown (Danny) of Glenarm, IL and Karen Warren (Tony) of Florissant, MO; and her siblings, William Purvis (Ann), Lucille Burgess, Leola Gore (Howard), Ann Sihra, Dottie Evans (McNeil) and Emma Furgerson (Ron). She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
