He was predeceased by: his parents, Haskell Shafer and Rita Shafer (Green). He is survived by: his wife Barbara Shafer (Helverson); his daughters, Susan Dunlop of Sycamore and Brenda Suhayda (Bill) of Sugar Grove, Illinois; and his grandchildren, Stephanie Evans (Brian) of Montgomery, Brett Suhayda (Joanna) of Sugar Grove, Kelly Land (Zach) of Pensacola, Emily Dunlop (Andrew Thompson) of Lake Forest and Sara Zins (Eric) of Fulda, Minnesota. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
