He was predeceased by: his parents, William Hess and Jean Hess (Gaydos); and his sister Barbara Devine (Bernard). He is survived by: his daughters, Norma Laino of DeKalb, Christina Rodriguez (Beto) and Nicole Criswell (Chip) of Sycamore; his stepsons, Timothy Hoecherl (Laurie) of Sycamore and William Hoecherl (Michelle) of Mohawk, TN; and his siblings, Marilyn Rivard (Paul) of Smithfield, RI and William Hess of Boca Raton, FL. He is also survived by many grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
