He was predeceased by: his parents, Morgan Johnson and Lillie Johnson; and his brothers-in-law, Vernon, Ellwood, Elmer, Ken and Gene Vesta.
He is survived by: his wife Lois Vesta; his children, Diana Vonderheide (Terry), Julie Karolus (Adam), Karen Hoyle (Greg) of DeKalb, IL. and Bradley Johnson of Evansville, IN.; his grandchildren, Jordan Wellman, Jessica Wellman of DeKalb, IL., Morgan Karolus of Virginia Beach, VA., Allison Karolus of Dixon, IL., Matthew Hoyle (Tori) of Peoria, IL., Connor Hoyle (Stephanie Rodriguez), Caden, Emery Johnson, Elissa Vonderheide of DeKalb, IL. and Justin Vonderheide of Tioga, ND.; his great grandchildren, Mackenzie Carter of Monroe Center, IL., Ryker Vonderheide of Tioga, ND., Noah Hoyle of Peoria, IL. and Scarlett Dockery of DeKalb, IL.; and his sisters-in-law, Norma Thorpe and Doris Carlson. He is also survived by many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins who were like his brothers.
In place of flowers, there are two Memorial Funds that will be established honoring James M. Johnson's legacy. DeKalb County Farm Bureau Foundation supporting the future of young farmers and/or First Lutheran Church in honor of Jim being a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church where his heart will always be remembered.
