He was predeceased by: his parents, Mark Buckalew and Alma Buckalew (Baugher); his wife Mary Catholine Butler; his siblings, Donald, John, Charles, Barbara Baker and Mary Jane Johnson; and his daughter-in-law Pamela Buckalew (Whitaker).

He is survived by: his children, Marsha Wittenberg (Dan) of Gays, Scott Buckalew of Decatur and Brent Buckalew of Monticello; his grandchildren, Cansas Buckalew of Indianapolis, IN and Jack Buckalew of Monticello; his sister Lila Buckalew of Pocatello, ID; and his brothers-in-law, Richard Baker of Brookfield and Denny Johnson of Arcola. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
