He was predeceased by: his parents, John Cooper and Edith Cooper (Baker); his son George Cooper Jr.; his siblings, Mabel Sanmann, Shirley Leadbetter, Alice Davis and Carroll Cooper; and the mother of his children Jean Penczek.
He is survived by: his daughters, Deborah Cooper and Theresa Bright (Fred); his grandchildren, Christina Adam (Jared) and Michael Bright (Carrie); and his great grandchildren, Abigail, Hannah Andrew Adam, Tyler, Gabrielle, Ross, Rachel and Julianne Bright. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
