He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hirkala and Suzanna Hirkala (Yuskov); his grandchildren, Kirk Englert, Luke Englert, Miranda Englert and Crisandra Englert; his brother John Hirkala; and his brothers-in-law, Arthur Sornberger, Frank Reed and John Majernik.
He is survived by: his grandsons-in-law, Josh Farrell, Michael Jennings and Daniel Wiley; his wife Doris Hirkala of Streator; his children, Carol Englert (Bill) of Streator, Cyndi Lene (Randy) of LaPlata, Sandy Jackson (David) of Hanceville, Alabama and Jim Hirkala (Ada) of Streator; his grandchildren, Marie Farrell (Josh) of Streator, Alanna Jo Englert of Ottawa, Ashley Hirkala (Brent Anderson) of Streator, Joe Hirkala of Varna, Josh Besowshek (Dawn Jackson) of LaPlata, Seth Besowshek (Jen) of Lake St, Abbie Jennings (Michael) of LaPlata, Desiree Wiley (Daniel) of Cullman and Shannon Nichols (Brett McDonald) of Hanceville, Alabama; his siblings, Ann Reed of Streator and George Hirkala (Dorothy) of Streator; and his close friend Joe Fricano. He is also survived by 21 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter.
