He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Benning and Nora Benning (Hollenbeck); his wife Teena; his sons, Patrick Bosco Benning and George Christopher Benning; and his sister Mary Margaret Barickman.
He is survived by: his grandsons, Ryan and Zac; his close friends, Scott Hagi, David Walker and Willy Williamson; his sons, Peter Benning (Shelly) of Pontiac and Benjamin Benning (Kari) of Streator; his grandchildren, Jacklyn "Jackie" Scarratt (William) of Streator, Ann Benning of Streator, Allison Dempster (Brian), Zackary Benning (Mandy), Sydney Benning, Christopher Scarratt (Shelly), Ava Glisson and Zeelyn Benning; and his great grandchildren, Bryson Hall, Colin Benning, Zoey, Maxwell Benning, Jack Dempster and Hayden Scarratt.
