He was predeceased by: his parents, Wiemar Schmitt and Dorothy Schmitt (Gallick); his son Bradley David Schmitt; and his siblings, Kenneth and Diane.
He is survived by: his wife Susan Moran; his children, Amy Schmitt of Mahomet and Gary Schmitt (Dynae) of Pekin; his grandchildren, Cayden and Hailey; and his sister Ruth McGrath (Jay) of Streator.
Visitation was held on Monday, December 2nd 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Winterrowd-Hagi Funeral Home (305 S Park St, Streator, IL 61364). A funeral Mass was held on Monday, December 2nd 2024 at 12:00 PM at the St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church (407 S Park St, Streator, IL 61364).
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.
