He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Thies and Dorothy Thies (Edwards). He is survived by: his daughters, Michelle Novak (David) of Tolono and Amy Thies of Bloomington; and his sister Debra Meyers (Kimberly Thies) of Augusta, GA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Streator Ramp Builders or a charity of the donor's choosing.
