He was predeceased by: his parents, Sherman Elder and Lucille Elder (Murphy); his close friend Jamilla Khan; and his siblings, Joanne Lynch, Juanita Butler and Tom Elder.
He is survived by: his daughters, Diana Hood (Larry) of Minier, Debbie Hofferberth of Tavares, Denise McGivern (Rick) of North Carolina and Tracy Gretter (Jim) of Kansas City, Missouri; and his sisters, Ethel Bentley of Normal and Shirley Walker (Harold) of Bloomington. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
