He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Lawton and Alice Lawton (Mahaffey); his spouse Shirley Wilson; and his children, Charles K. Lawton III, Shain Copeland and Tina M. Cox.

He is survived by: his children, Jeromy Lawton (Karen) of Streator, Christina Lawton of Streator, Shannon Wadford (Luke) of Plano, TX, Jeanette Casey of Mississippi, Ty Cox (Rebecca) of Pontiac and James Cox (Karina) of Perth; and his stepsister Leslie Mahaffey. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
