He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Tibbs and Nancy Tibbs (Frye); and his siblings, Dorothy Donahue, Virgil, Robert and John Tibbs.

He is survived by: his wife Wilma S. Tibbs of Streator; his children, Terri Shipman of Valley Springs, Arkansas, Tom Tibbs (Debby) of Herscher and Tim Tibbs (Robin) of Gasville, Arkansas; and his grandchildren, Steve Meadows (Mara) of Streator, Clayton Tibbs, Colin Tibbs and Carter Tibbs.
