He was predeceased by: his siblings, Ray, Jr. and Betty Louise Smith; his brother-in-law Richard Mottar of Ventura, CA; his children-in-law, John Penning and Sue Smith; and his grandson Christopher Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Dolores Elaine Mottar; his children, Debra Sue Penning, Robert Edwin, Jr. of Northville, MI and Michael Edwin of LaCrosse, WI.; his grandchildren, Samuel Penning (Ezara), Emily Penning of Kansas City, MO, Robert III (Bridget) of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Mark (Amber) of LaCrosse, WI and Michael (Megan) of Onalaska, WI; his great grandchildren, Declan, Riley, Sullivan, Finnegan, Harrison and Lincoln; his siblings, Richard of Bradenton, FL and Zintka (Polly) of Edina, MN; and his brother-in-law Robert Mottar. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
