He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Schiess and Ellen Schiess (Fels); his son Scott; and his son-in-law Loren Heidenreich. He is survived by: his wife Bev; his children, Tracy Heidenreich of Elizabeth, Janis Thoren (Greg) of Stockton, Kerry Schiess (Cindy) of Byron Center, MI, Todd Schiess (Laila) of Concord, CA and Brian Schiess (Michele) of Lanark; and his great grandchildren, Nathan, Aaron Heidenreich (Sara), Neil, Julia Thoren Blair (Ben), Kelly, Jody Gardill (Aedan), Shannon Schiess, Anna Bollone (Quincy), Zoe McDonnell (Kam), Zachary Schiess, Travis (August), Devin Schiess, Anna Blair, Brynn, Thomas Heidenreich and Scout Schiess. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
