He was predeceased by: his parents, Merle Lawfer and Ethel Lawfer (Erwin); his spouse Lou Ann Carroll; his son Rex; and his siblings, Freeman, Kenneth and Eula Jean Smith.

He is survived by: his sons, Jan Lawfer (Bonnie) and Kim Lawfer (Nancy); his grandchildren, Jamie Lawfer (Nicole), Jayson Lawfer (Jenny) and Katy Sprunger (Matt); his great grandchildren, Noah, Elijah, Rich Lawfer (Kim O.) and Dave Dixon (Emily); and also, Rhyleigh Lou Ann, Jenna (Patrick), Libby, Kendall, Barb Manske (Scott), Brandon, Jacob, Katelyn (Chase) and Olivia.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
