He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lester Benson and Mary Benson (Tomorsky); his wife Mildred Benson (Swanson); his daughters, Karen Joy Benson of Chicago and Elizabeth Ann Benson of Chicago; his brothers, Timothy Benson of Muskegon and John Benson (Vicki) of Muskegon; and his sister-in-law Ruth Ann Ashman (George) of Forest Park. He was also cherished by three nieces and one nephew.

Until the Alzheimer's gradually robbed him of his personality, he had a great sense of humor- never malicious.
