John N. Lyon III Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of John N. Lyon III (Sterling, Illinois), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 15, 2025 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John N. Lyon, and Ferne Lyon, Jr. (Vickrey); his wife Mary Kay Knicl; and his brother Gene Lyon. He is survived by: his children, Lisa Lyon of Chiloquin, OR, Lorraine Kunde (Bradley) of Sterling, Leann Petzke (John) of Aurora, Alexandra Eiduke (John) of Lakemoor, Audra Lyon of Sterling and John N. Lyon IV (Dawn) of Decatur; his siblings, Sandra Martin (Duane) of Kewanee and Richard Lyon of Elk Grove, CA; his grandchildren, Patrick Lyon, John N. Lyon V, Joshua Kunde (Chelsea), Molly Nelson (Nathan), Ryan Petzke (Hannah), Alexandra Petzke and Megan Petzke; and his great grandchildren, Vera Eloise Lyon, Madeline, Emilia Kunde and Beckham Nelson.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 18th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, April 19th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 19th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church (501 Broadway Ave, Sterling, IL 61081).
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Rock River Hospice & Home, First United Methodist Church or FISH Food Pantry.
