He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Near and Jessie Near (Kreider); his son Sam Near; and his siblings, Jacob Near, Charles Near and Mary Ellen Norris.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret Near; his children, John Near (Carol) of New Era, MI, Mark Near (Beth) of Shelby, MI, Jessie Beam (Harvey) of Stevensville Ontario and Joyce Sedig (Chris) of Dixon, IL; and his daughter-in-law Phoebe Ann Near of Shelby, MI. He is also survived by twenty three grandchildren and forty five great-grandchildren.
