He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter L. Smith and Emma Rathert Smith; his brother Howard Rathert; his nephew Jason Smith; and his niece Jeanna Faulk.
He is survived by: his former wife Carol M. Voss; his wife Carol Smith of Steeleville; his sons, Brian Smith (Jill) of Steeleville, Steven Smith of Steeleville and Michael Smith (Misty) of Steeleville; his grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Brandon Smith (Brooke), A. J. Smith (Sarah Heideman), Michaela Smith, Makenzie Smith, Stephen Scott (Paige) and Meggie White; his great grandchildren, Hadley Smith and Eryn Valle; and his siblings, Janet Bollman (Darl) of Steeleville, James Smith (Jeannette) of Steeleville and William Smith (Linda) of Chester.
Memorials may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Grant Aid Endowment.
