He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin "Mel" Smith and Margaret "Peg" Smith (Pierce). He is survived by: his wife Soe Soe; his children, Kathy, John and James; his stepdaughter Thanda; and his siblings, Marianne and Karl. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 17th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Camp Butler National Cemetery (5063 Camp Butler Rd, Springfield, IL 62707).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veteran of America (VVA).
