It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Roy Thompson of Springfield, Illinois, born in Iowa City, Iowa, who passed away on May 15, 2024, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence E. Thompson and Sara J. Thompson (Stampe); his son Daniel N. Thompson; and his nephews, Timothy Phillips and Stephen Phillips.
He is survived by: his wife Kathryn J. Phillips; his siblings, Penny Miller (Rudi) of Grand Junction, CO, Caro Thompson of Walden, VT and Paul Thompson (Carole) of New York, NY; his nieces and nephews, Valerie Amundson, Susan Phillips, Cheryl Lyle, Allison Kish, Sara Phillips, Melinda Roedler, Leonard Lee, Ed Lee, Adam Thompson, Theodore Bergfelt, Mark Bergfelt, Eric Bergfelt and Kenneth Phillips; and his close friends, George and Judy Buck.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson's Foundation (Parkinson.org) or West Side Christian Church.
