It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Matthew J. Maurer of Springfield, Illinois, who passed away on July 23, 2023, at the age of 62, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Joseph Jude and Rosetta M. Tega Maurer; his siblings, Dr. JoAnne M. Maurer, John A. Maurer and Dr. Chris L. Maurer; his father-in-law Kevin L. McCarthy; and his pets, Teddy and Molly.
He is survived by: his wife Kristina "Kris" McCarthy; his children, Shad Surgis of Springfield and Jenna Maurer of Springfield; his siblings, Mary Rose Hoffman (Tom) of Springfield, Jospeh J. Maurer, Jr. (Lisa) of Texas, Linda Shoemaker of Riverton, Diane Howard (Rex Bruss), Dr. Susan Maurer (Denise Wend) of Springfield and Daniel Maurer (Rachael) of Springfield; his mother-in-law Patricia McCarthy (Dennis Poss) of Springfield; his siblings-in-law, Dr. Mark Gekas of Springfield, Kevin McCarthy (Rhonda) of Springfield, Kyle McCarthy of New York and Kim McCarthy of Springfield; and his pet Rusty. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
